How to join MARA ARES
Fill out the MARA ARES form above. It’s very important to include your Lat/Long, any allergies or special medications you may need and any special qualification you may already have. Email that form to Don/KL7JFT MARA DEC. (dbush@gci.net) Your next project is to complete the following ICS courses: (100, 200, 700, 800, and 144). These are on line courses and take about 1 1/2 hours to complete. As you pass them, they will send you a certificate, please send a copy of that to Don. Look at the MARA ARES training tab for the shortcut to the ICS institute. You will need to apply for a student number, if do not have one. You will kept up to date as to various training opportunities to learn how to operate MARA’s equipment and setup the Mobile Comm Center.
You are welcomed to join in on all of MARA’s activities in which we are always doing some type of training and discussions, which will help to familiarize you with our procedures. MARA’s Emergency Plans and SOPs are located in the MARA ARES reference tab for your review. You also will be issued an ARES ID card. Throughout the year we assist in supporting public activities like the Women’s Gold Nugget Triathlon, Girl Scout Encampments, Boy Scout JOTA and community Emergency Preparedness shows and other public activities both in Matsu and Anchorage.
As you become more familiar with our organization you may find it beneficial to join ARRL. It provides additional training items and ham radio support material and reference manuals. You can check with the Club Treasurer for information on joining them.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can answer for you.
